Annual Thanksgiving Potluck

Our Annual Thanksgiving Potluck brought together both our administrative and electrical teams for a rare and cherished gathering. This year’s potluck was a true celebration of camaraderie and gratitude. Employees shared home-cooked meals and laughter. Events like these remind us of the strong sense of community that drives our success—on and off the field.

Industry Insights: Net Gains

Southwest Industrial Electric was recently featured in Construction Executive for our charitable work benefiting Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Through our basketball charity event, we raised funds to support cancer care and research.

This initiative underscores our dedication to giving back to the community and helping ensure brighter futures for children in need. By collaborating with our partners, employees, and the wider community, we demonstrated the power of teamwork both on and off the court.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in making this event a success and encourage you to explore the full story in Construction Executive here

This year, we made the strategic decision to forgo exhibiting at RE+ and instead focus on direct networking and relationship building. This approach allowed us to connect with key partners, clients, and potential new opportunities in a more personalized and efficient manner.

By canvassing the event, we were able to:

  • Deepen Existing Relationships: We reconnected with valued partners and clients, strengthening our collaborations.
  • Identify New Opportunities: We explored new business avenues and identified potential partnerships.

This Date in Electrical History

November 8, 1904 – The First Detachable Electric Plug

On November 8, 1904, Harvey Hubbell II patented the first detachable electric plug in the United States (US patent number 774,250). This invention revolutionized how electrical devices connected to power sources, eliminating the need for hardwiring and significantly enhancing convenience and safety. Prior to Hubbell’s invention, devices had to be hardwired to terminals, increasing the risk of dangerous short circuits during connections.

Hubbell’s invention was part of a series of groundbreaking contributions to the electrical industry, including patents for pull-chain light sockets and electric switches. An industrialist and inventor, Hubbell established the Harvey Hubbell Manufacturing Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1888. Today, Hubbell Incorporated remains a leader in the electrical industry, carrying forward its founder’s legacy of innovation.
