This Month in Electrical History: January 15, 1967 – The First Super Bowl Powered by Stadium Lighting

On January 15, 1967, the first-ever Super Bowl (Super Bowl I) was played between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. While the game itself made history, it also marked a milestone in electrical engineering—the widespread use of high-intensity stadium lighting for a major televised sporting event. Advancements in stadium illumination allowed the game to be broadcast in vivid detail to millions of viewers, setting the standard for future night games and live sports entertainment. This breakthrough in electrical lighting systems ensured that athletes, spectators, and TV audiences could experience high-quality visibility, transforming the way professional sports were played and viewed.

Today, modern stadiums rely on LED technology and smart lighting systems, a testament to how far electrical innovation has come in shaping entertainment experiences.

🌟 Meet the Team:

This month, we highlight Lauren, a key member of our team who plays an important role in delivering excellence on our projects.

What is your position at SIE and what interested you in such work?

I am the Director of Executive Affairs here at SIE. What initially drew me to this role was the opportunity for growth and the ability to take on new challenges that push me to excel in my field. Having spent much of my career in managerial positions, I found that my experience seamlessly translated into this role, allowing me to bring strategic oversight and executive support to the company. Stepping into this position has significantly expanded my expertise and allowed me to contribute even more value to SIE.

What do you enjoy most about your job and working at SIE?

I enjoy being surrounded by like-minded professionals who prioritize care and integrity over personal gain. In the contracting world, I have experienced firsthand how critical customer service and relationship-building are to business success. At SIE, the company’s commitment to exceptional service extends not just to customers, but also to its employees. The leadership here is always looking for ways to support and empower the team, fostering an environment where everyone can flourish and grow.

Working closely with the CEO and executive team has allowed me to refine my leadership skills and develop a broader perspective on business operations. I am incredibly grateful to be part of a company that values both professional development and workplace culture as much as SIE does.
